An interim Chief Medical Officer role leading clinical operations, quality and safety, physician credentialing, and strategic planning for UNC Health Nash across North Carolina.
UNC Health Nash, an affiliated member of the UNC Health system, is seeking an interim Senior VP and Chief Medical Officer to serve as the leading physician executive for the organisation. The CMO will partner closely with the CEO, CNO, and executive team to provide strategic direction across all clinical and medical operations, with a focus on high-quality patient care, physician engagement, and alignment with the hospital's mission.
The role carries broad oversight including quality and safety programs, clinical service-line development, physician performance management, credentialing, regulatory compliance (HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid, JCAHO), and direct management of the Medical Staff Office, Quality, Risk Management, Care Management, and Transitional Care departments. The CMO also contributes to clinical budget management in collaboration with the CFO and leads change initiatives across the medical staff.
- Oversee quality, safety, and continuous improvement programs across all clinical operations
- Develop and implement a comprehensive clinical strategic plan in partnership with the CEO and CNO
- Manage physician performance, credentialing, and medical staff bylaws compliance
- Collaborate with the CFO to manage clinical budgets and resource allocation efficiently
- Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations including HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid, and JCAHO standards
- Lead and develop the Medical Staff Office, Quality, Risk Management, Care Management, and Transitional Care departments
- MD or DO from an accredited School of Medicine
- Board Certification in a clinical discipline
- Minimum 12 years of clinical experience, with at least 10 years in a leadership capacity
- Demonstrated experience in physician performance management and credentialing processes
- Proven ability to drive organisational change and lead cross-functional clinical teams
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory frameworks including JCAHO, HIPAA, and Medicare/Medicaid
