Interim Chief Information Officer

A large and complex Ontario post-secondary institution is seeking an interim Chief Information Officer for a 6 to 12 month mandate. The CIO will report to the President and provide visible leadership across a technology function of more than 100 professionals, initially stabilising the environment before shifting focus to modernisation and operating model improvement. The institution operates within a unionised environment, requiring an executive capable of driving meaningful change while respecting collective agreements and employee relationships.

Key areas of focus include ERP optimisation and enterprise platform value realisation, cloud strategy and application rationalisation, data governance and analytics capability, and cybersecurity posture and resilience. The successful candidate will translate technology strategy into a practical execution roadmap with clear accountabilities, and coach senior technology leaders to improve service delivery, governance, and organisational performance.

• Assess the current technology environment, operating model, and organisational structure, then establish a clear modernisation roadmap.
• Lead a team of 100-plus technology professionals through a period of transition, providing stability, clarity, and confident direction.
• Optimise the organisation's ERP implementation and broader enterprise platforms, addressing integration, data, and process issues.
• Evaluate and evolve the cybersecurity posture, governance frameworks, and operational resilience practices across the institution.
• Drive cloud strategy and application rationalisation, ensuring modernisation decisions are grounded in institutional value.
• Strengthen data governance, analytics capabilities, and decision-support functions to enable faster, evidence-based decision-making.

• Demonstrated experience as a senior technology executive, ideally at CIO or equivalent level in a large and complex organisation.
• Proven ability to lead technology change in a unionised environment while respecting collective agreements and employee relations processes.
• Experience with ERP optimisation, enterprise platform management, and vendor or insourcing tradeoff evaluation.
• Strong background in cybersecurity governance, risk management, and building enterprise-wide security awareness.
• Hands-on experience with cloud strategy, legacy modernisation, and application rationalisation programmes.
• Ability to coach and develop senior technology leaders and build a strong service and accountability culture.
