Financial Consulting Managing Director - Interim Staffing

RSM is looking for a seasoned finance executive to step into Interim CFO engagements with middle-market clients on a defined-term basis. Clients are typically closely held or family-owned businesses requiring senior finance leadership through ownership transitions, sale preparation, restructuring, or periods of accelerated growth. The role is structured around RSM's full delivery infrastructure, including back-office support, FP&A resources, and technology capabilities, allowing the executive to focus where impact is greatest.

This is not a traditional placement. Engagements are scoped in advance, providing clearer expectations and a faster start than most interim arrangements. The ideal candidate brings credibility with founders, boards, lenders, and private equity sponsors, alongside the operational depth to drive immediate results across finance strategy, reporting, and transformation initiatives.

• Serve as Interim CFO for middle-market clients navigating transitions, restructuring, M&A, or rapid growth
• Lead financial strategy, planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting
• Oversee cash flow management, capital allocation, and lender or investor communications
• Guide clients through M&A transactions, debt refinancing, business turnarounds, and systems modernisation
• Build and develop high-performing finance teams while establishing scalable processes and controls
• Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for executive, board, and investor audiences

• 10 or more years as a CFO or senior finance leader within middle-market organisations
• Proven track record leading finance through M&A, capital raises, restructuring, or enterprise transformation
• Strong foundation in FP&A, cash flow management, financial reporting, and strategic resource allocation
• Experience in operationally intensive sectors such as retail, distribution, food service, or consumer products
• Ability to earn the trust of founders, boards, lenders, and private equity sponsors quickly
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or equivalent executive experience; CPA or MBA preferred
