Interim CFO

A family-owned construction organisation in Rochester, NY is seeking an experienced Interim CFO to provide executive-level financial leadership during a critical transition period. The role calls for someone who can step in immediately, bring structure to a busy accounting environment, and advise the President on liquidity, capital allocation, and overall financial performance. The engagement covers core finance and accounting oversight, month-end and year-end close, audit management, and compliance activities including sales tax. Familiarity with AS400 is strongly preferred, as the role requires extracting and presenting actionable financial data from that system.

This is a long-term contract suited to a decisive, hands-on finance executive with prior CFO-level responsibility and ideally a background in construction or a similarly operationally intensive sector.

• Lead the finance and accounting function on an interim basis, providing oversight across daily operations and longer-term financial priorities
• Advise the President on cash flow, liquidity, capital requirements, and financial performance
• Direct the Controller and coordinate across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and staff accounting activities
• Manage timely month-end and year-end close processes to ensure reliable results and executive reporting
• Prepare and present financial statements and management reports to support informed business decisions
• Guide the organisation through audit activity, valuation reviews, and tax and compliance matters including sales tax obligations

• 10 or more years of senior finance and accounting experience, including CFO-level or equivalent executive responsibility
• Demonstrated success managing cash flow analysis, capital management, financial reporting, and close processes in a complex environment
• Strong audit background with experience managing external audit processes and supporting documentation
• Proficiency with AS400 strongly preferred, with ability to produce meaningful reporting quickly from the system
• Experience in construction or a closely related operationally intensive sector highly preferred
• Solid knowledge of tax compliance including sales tax, and the ability to assume leadership with minimal ramp-up time
