A part-time interim CFO engagement with a fully remote clinical claims-review firm, providing executive-level financial leadership across revenue cycle management, internal controls, and contractor payments.
Michael Hill, MD and Associates (MHMDAA) is a fully remote clinical claims-review firm serving national law firms and their payer clients. Having scaled its clinical and analytical operations rapidly, the business now requires an interim CFO to bring financial discipline to a distributed contractor model with a long, intermediated revenue cycle. The engagement covers cash forecasting, accounts receivable management, billing integrity, monthly close, and internal controls design.
The role is structured as a 1099 independent contractor engagement, operating primarily during Eastern business hours. The CFO will work closely with the CEO and Chief of Staff, and will interact directly with law firm billing contacts. There is scope for the engagement to expand as the firm continues to grow.
- Own rolling 13-week cash forecasting, accounting for the 60-75+ day revenue cycle between client invoicing and collection.
- Manage accounts receivable end to end, including aging schedules, escalation cadence, and direct follow-up with law firm billing contacts.
- Run the monthly invoicing cycle, including timesheet validation in Clockify, hours-and-rates roll-up by contributor and matter, and exception reporting.
- Oversee month-end close, maintain the general ledger in QuickBooks, and produce a monthly financial package covering P&L, cash position, AR aging, and matter-level margin.
- Manage accounts payable for domestic and international contractors, including 1099, W-9, and W-8BEN compliance.
- Build matter-level profitability reporting and support pricing and staffing decisions on new engagements.
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including time as a CFO, Controller, or Finance Director with full ownership of the close.
- Direct experience in a professional services, consulting, or legal services environment billing on a time-and-materials basis.
- Hands-on experience managing a long, intermediated collections cycle and associated cash flow.
- Working proficiency in QuickBooks and advanced Excel, with comfort using Clockify or similar time-tracking tools and Bill.com or equivalent AP platforms.
- Experience with independent contractor payments including 1099, W-9, and international W-8BEN documentation.
- Demonstrated track record of building internal controls and process documentation from the ground up.
MHMDAA provides expert witness opinions, clinical claims review, and coding and utilisation analysis in payer-provider disputes. Roughly three years old, the firm operates fully remotely across a network of approximately 30-35 independent contractors, including nurse reviewers, physicians, certified coders, and a technical and business-development team based in India.
