A hands-on interim CFO engagement to transform accounting and controllership functions within a private equity-backed organisation, building scalable processes and strengthening financial controls.
MBO Partners is seeking an experienced interim CFO on behalf of a private equity-backed client based in Cleveland, OH. The engagement is structured as a six-month contract with possible extensions, requiring someone who can assess the current accounting environment, identify control gaps, and establish a scalable operational structure. The role demands both executive-level strategic direction and genuine hands-on involvement in building out accounting processes and reporting frameworks.
The ideal candidate brings at least eight years of CFO-level experience, a solid grounding in accounting principles and controllership, and a track record of leading financial transformations within organisations generating $50M to $100M or more in annual revenue. Prior experience in financial services or private equity-backed settings is strongly preferred.
- Assess the existing accounting organisation and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, and scalability.
- Establish and optimise accounting and controllership processes, policies, and operational structure.
- Provide hands-on leadership and strategic direction across accounting and controller functions.
- Develop and implement best practices to support growth following the private equity acquisition.
- Strengthen financial reporting, controls, and overall accounting operations.
- Partner with executive leadership and private equity stakeholders to align financial operations with business objectives.
- Eight or more years of genuine CFO-level experience with significant accountability for accounting and controllership functions.
- Deep, practical knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, and operational processes.
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting teams and implementing new operational structures.
- Experience managing financial operations within organisations generating $50M to $100M or more in annual revenue.
- Private equity-backed or post-acquisition experience is strongly preferred.
- Background in financial services or the finance industry is preferred. CPA certification is a plus but not required.
