Interim CFO

CFS is engaged to place an Interim CFO with a nonprofit organisation based in Columbus, Ohio. The role is designed to provide financial stability and executive leadership during a leadership transition, working closely with the CEO, executive team, and Board of Trustees. The Interim CFO will function as both a strategic advisor and a hands-on operator, responsible for maintaining financial integrity and ensuring the organisation is well-positioned for an incoming permanent CFO.

This engagement requires deep familiarity with nonprofit financial structures, including multi-source funding environments such as grants, donations, and government funding. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating at board level while also engaging directly with operational financial processes including month-end close, cash forecasting, and internal controls.

• Oversee all core financial operations including cash management, financial close processes, internal controls, and reporting
• Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting to the CEO, executive leadership, and Board of Trustees
• Lead cash flow forecasting and liquidity management across multiple nonprofit funding streams
• Identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks throughout the transition period
• Support strategic planning and organisational decision-making as a trusted advisor to executive leadership
• Maintain compliance standards and prepare clear documentation to facilitate a smooth handover to the incoming permanent CFO

• Proven experience as an Interim or Transitional CFO, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organisation
• Extensive background in cash management, liquidity forecasting, and multi-source funding environments
• Strong track record overseeing month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls under pressure
• Direct experience working with CEOs and Boards of Directors or Finance Committees
• Experience navigating organisational change, leadership transitions, or periods of financial uncertainty
• Deep understanding of nonprofit financial operations, compliance, and governance strongly preferred
