An interim CFO role supporting a private equity-backed technical and built environment business through an active buy-and-build growth phase, partnering with the CEO, Board and investor to professionalise finance and lead M&A integration.
The client is a private equity-backed business operating across the technical and built environment sector, currently executing an active buy-and-build strategy. The Interim CFO will serve as the primary financial partner to the CEO, Board and PE investor, setting the finance agenda for the next phase of the investment cycle.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring the CFO to stabilise and professionalise financial reporting, build M&A integration capability from the ground up, sharpen commercial and pricing performance, and develop the finance team with a structured handover plan for a permanent successor. Experience in technical services, engineering, consultancy or the wider built environment is highly desirable.
- Partner with the PE investor, CEO and Board as the primary financial adviser on strategy, capital allocation and commercial priorities
- Design and implement a full suite of financial, operational and commercial KPIs including utilisation, contract margin, backlog and cash conversion
- Support the buy-and-build strategy through target evaluation, financial due diligence, deal modelling and completion
- Build and lead a group integration playbook from scratch, covering finance, HR, IT and systems, and own post-acquisition integration
- Assess existing pricing frameworks and contract structures, then establish governance to sustain margin improvements linked to EBITDA
- Develop succession plans for key finance roles and deliver a clear handover pathway for the permanent CFO
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a track record as CFO or Finance Director in private equity-backed businesses
- Proven experience partnering with PE investors and Boards, comfortable being held accountable against a value creation plan
- Hands-on M&A experience across deal execution and post-acquisition integration, ideally having built an integration approach from scratch
- Demonstrated delivery of finance system selection, implementation and data migration in a multi-entity environment
- Commercial pricing and margin improvement experience with a direct link to EBITDA outcomes
- Background in technical services, engineering, consultancy, construction or the wider built environment is highly desirable
