An interim CFO engagement supporting a mission-driven nonprofit through a critical transition, overseeing all finance and accounting functions, budgeting, compliance, and Board reporting.
A mission-driven nonprofit with roughly $20M in annual revenue is seeking an experienced interim CFO to stabilise and strengthen its financial infrastructure during a leadership transition. The organisation is entering budget season and requires a hands-on finance leader who can build budgeting processes from the ground up, improve financial reporting accuracy, and partner closely with executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
The role spans the full breadth of finance and accounting operations, including grant and government funding reporting, annual audits, IRS Form 990 oversight, GAAP compliance, cash flow management, and internal controls. The successful candidate will also mentor and stabilise the existing finance team while presenting financial results and strategic recommendations to executive stakeholders and the Board.
- Oversee all accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions across the organisation.
- Build the annual operating budget from the ground up and monitor variances against forecasts.
- Manage cash flow, funding allocation, and financial planning across multiple programmes and contracts.
- Establish and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP-compliant procedures.
- Coordinate annual audits and oversee IRS Form 990 preparation and filing.
- Present financial performance, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience within nonprofit organisations with revenues above $10M.
- At least 5 years of senior finance leadership experience, including Board-level reporting.
- Proven experience managing grant funding, government contracts, and complex multi-source budgets.
- Advanced proficiency in Sage Intacct and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, compliance, and tax filing requirements.
- CPA and/or advanced degree strongly preferred.
