Senior Advisor, Nonprofit Consulting (Interim CFO)

Aprio's Nonprofit Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Advisor to lead interim CFO engagements for nonprofit clients in the Washington, DC area. This is a part-time, as-needed position where hours fluctuate based on client demand, typically ranging from 24 to 32 hours per week per engagement, with no guaranteed minimum. The advisor works alongside Aprio partners and professional practice staff, stepping into finance leadership roles across a range of nonprofit organisations.

Engagements span five service pillars, including financial analysis and policy evaluation, interim controller and CFO services, single audit facilitation, chart of accounts redesign, and finance department assessment. On-site travel to client locations across the DC area is required. The rate is $185 to $200 per hour.

• Lead and manage interim CFO client engagements, planning workstreams and coordinating with Aprio NPCG partners and staff
• Produce high-level financial reporting and analysis to equip senior leadership with clear, actionable insights
• Conduct cash flow analyses and projections to ensure adequate liquidity and identify future risks
• Monitor budgets and perform variance analyses in collaboration with client finance teams, recommending adjustments as needed
• Review board reports for accuracy, conciseness, and alignment with governance requirements
• Mentor and provide strategic oversight to client finance directors and accounting teams

• 20 or more years of accounting experience, including direct experience as a nonprofit CFO
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent; CPA designation preferred
• Demonstrated ability to lead a nonprofit finance and accounting function autonomously
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to boards and executive leadership
• Effective prioritisation and daily management of multiple client and staff priorities
• Willingness and ability to travel on-site to client locations across the DC area
