Interim Chief Executive Officer

RePublic Schools is seeking an Interim CEO to provide steady executive leadership during a defined transition period of 8 to 18 months. Rather than setting new long-term strategy, the role focuses on executing current priorities, maintaining academic and operational performance, and positioning the organisation for its next permanent leadership structure. The Interim CEO will split time roughly equally between the Jackson, Mississippi and Nashville, Tennessee regions.

This is a hands-on leadership appointment requiring someone who can create clarity under uncertainty, build trust across multiple boards and stakeholder groups, and ensure day-to-day executive decisions are made with confidence. The role reports directly to the RePublic Charter Management Board of Directors, with an anticipated start date of 1 January 2027.

• Provide clear, consistent executive leadership and establish decision-making structures for the interim period
• Maintain focus on academic achievement, scholar enrolment, staff retention, and financial health across both regions
• Lead, coach, and build cohesion within the senior leadership team, setting shared goals and performance expectations
• Serve as the primary executive partner to the RCM Board and regional boards, providing timely and candid reporting on organisational health
• Ensure financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and readiness for upcoming school renewal and authoriser processes
• Prepare the organisation for a smooth handoff to permanent leadership by documenting key decisions, risks, and institutional knowledge

• Proven track record in senior executive leadership, ideally within a charter management organisation or comparable education non-profit
• Experience managing through organisational transition, change, or uncertainty
• Strong board relations skills, with the ability to communicate candidly and support governance decisions
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop senior leadership teams across multiple geographies
• Solid understanding of school finance, compliance, and authoriser requirements
• Ability to be based in or travel extensively between Jackson, MS and Nashville, TN (approximately 50% time in each region)
