Head of Product, Fractional

This fractional role sits across three product layers: understanding what the physical infrastructure produces, how the back end structures and serves data, and how the front end surfaces it to scientists and partners. The immediate priority is a structured platform evaluation and build-versus-buy analysis for data infrastructure, followed by a rightsizing of the front-end data layer.

The position carries a clear execution mandate. The right candidate has managed data-intensive products and can operate autonomously across both technical and scientific teams, translating complex requirements into actionable engineering specifications and decision memos for leadership.

• Own sequencing data integration and tooling across internal use cases and external-facing deliverables
• Translate scientific and commercial data needs into clear engineering specifications in collaboration with computational biology, data engineering, and automation teams
• Define product direction for interfaces, dashboards, and visualisation tools used by scientists and partners
• Lead a structured assessment of current data infrastructure against alternatives, covering cost, speed, and development velocity
• Draft decision memos that frame build-versus-buy tradeoffs clearly for leadership, including team impact and total cost of ownership
• Outline a de-risked migration path if a platform change is warranted, including pilot, parallel run, and validation stages

• Proven experience product-managing data-intensive systems, ideally in a scientific or biotech context
• Ability to operate autonomously across technical and scientific teams without close supervision
• Strong track record conducting platform evaluations and producing build-versus-buy recommendations
• Comfortable writing structured decision memos and framing tradeoffs for senior leadership
• Familiarity with data infrastructure concepts including back-end data engineering and front-end visualisation layers
• US-based, available 10 to 20 hours per week
