How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM) partners with solo and small law firm owners who need experienced operational leadership rather than advisory consulting. As Fractional COO, you will serve a portfolio of up to 30 firms, embedded as a hands-on operator who builds scalable systems, designs accountability rhythms, and coaches owners to lead with data. HTM provides the client base, internal systems, and support infrastructure, so your focus remains on execution and measurable operational improvement.

This is a full-time W-2 position with base compensation of $110,000 plus performance-based pay, targeting $182,000 or more in on-target earnings. The role is fully remote but requires residence in one of the following states: AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, TX, VA, or WA.

Job Responsibilities
  • Build scalable operational systems and workflows across a portfolio of law firm clients
  • Design KPI dashboards and establish accountability rhythms to track business performance
  • Identify and remove operational bottlenecks to improve efficiency and profitability
  • Translate strategic goals into weekly execution plans alongside firm owners
  • Strengthen hiring processes, delegation frameworks, and organisational structure
  • Coach owners to make data-driven decisions and reduce owner-dependency across their businesses
Job Requirments
  • 12 or more years of operational leadership experience, ideally as COO, VP of Operations, or General Manager
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with founders or business owners
  • Track record of building systems, KPIs, and accountability structures across entrepreneurial businesses
  • Experience supporting businesses with annual revenue between approximately $1M and $35M or more
  • Ability to manage multiple client relationships concurrently with strong financial and operational acumen
  • Must reside in AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, TX, VA, or WA
