How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm (HTM) supports small law firm owners in building structured, scalable businesses. As a Fractional COO and Growth Partner, you will serve multiple law firm clients simultaneously, acting as their operational second-in-command. The role involves diagnosing operational inefficiencies, designing predictable business frameworks, and holding owners accountable to measurable growth targets. Compensation includes a $110,000 base with total on-target earnings exceeding $182,000, scaling with operational impact.
This is a remote position, though candidates must reside in one of the following states: AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, PA, TX, VA, or WA. The engagement is approximately 10 to 20 hours per week and is not suited to those whose background is exclusively in large corporate or enterprise environments.
- Design and deploy scalable operational frameworks that bring structure and predictability to small law firm businesses.
- Conduct operational diagnostics to identify profit leakage, workflow bottlenecks, and owner dependency points.
- Implement KPI dashboards and coach owners and their teams to make decisions based on hard data.
- Translate high-level vision into daily operational priorities across multiple client engagements simultaneously.
- Hold founders accountable to their growth targets through structured performance reviews and direct feedback.
- Act as a strategic partner and execution lead, bridging the gap between owner ambition and operational reality.
- 12 or more years of operational leadership experience as a COO, VP of Operations, or Head of Operations.
- Demonstrated success scaling small to mid-sized businesses in the $1M to $35M revenue range.
- Hands-on experience working directly with founders or business owners, not solely enterprise or corporate divisions.
- A builder mindset with the ability to create operational structure in fast-moving, resource-constrained environments.
- Strong interpersonal capability to advise, challenge, and align passionate entrepreneurial leaders.
- Execution-focused approach with a track record of delivering measurable financial and operational results.
