Job Summary

SMB Team is seeking a full-time Fractional CFO to serve as an embedded financial strategist for a portfolio of 10 to 20 law firm clients, delivering CFO-level reporting, cash flow management, and strategic guidance.

This is a full-time internal hire within SMB Team's fractional finance practice, supporting a portfolio of law firm clients as their dedicated financial executive. The role operates within a standardised delivery framework, the SMB Financial OS and Law Firm Growth Accelerator Model, ensuring consistent, high-quality outputs across every client engagement each month.

The successful candidate will manage monthly close reviews, financial reporting, cash flow forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses across a diverse range of law firm types, including personal injury, family law, estate, and flat-fee practices. Collaboration with a shared bookkeeping team is integral to the role, and strong client-facing communication is essential.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary financial contact for a portfolio of 10 to 20 law firm clients, owning the relationship and all monthly deliverables.
  • Deliver financial reporting, cash flow forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses on a consistent monthly cycle.
  • Conduct monthly close reviews, validating balance sheet integrity, reviewing P&L trends, and monitoring AR ageing.
  • Apply the Law Firm Growth Accelerator Model to assess performance, advise on staffing decisions, and guide sustainable growth.
  • Context-switch efficiently across diverse client firms, maintaining precision and professionalism throughout.
  • Collaborate with the bookkeeping team to ensure clean, timely books underpin CFO-level analysis each month.
Job Requirments
  • 5 or more years of accounting or finance experience, with strong proficiency in financial statement preparation, cash flow management, and budgeting.
  • Background in a multi-client environment such as public accounting, BPO, or fractional finance platforms, with at least 5 client files managed simultaneously.
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online; QBO ProAdvisor certification is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with Clio or comparable legal billing software preferred.
  • Familiarity with law firm financial metrics including utilisation, realization, IOLTA/trust accounting, and collections cycles.
  • Demonstrated ability to present financial data clearly to non-financial business owners in a remote-work environment.
