Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Higher Education

CampusWorks engages finance consultants to support higher education clients across a range of needs, from serving as an interim CFO or Finance Director to leading business process reviews or optimising finance ERP systems. Engagements may be remote or on-site, with some travel to client locations required. Roles are available on a contract (1099) or full-time basis.

Consultants work alongside client functional and technical teams to assess current processes, design improved future-state workflows, and implement solutions that lift organisational performance. The work spans accounting, financial reporting, policy development, and systems alignment across the full finance function.

• Lead day-to-day finance department operations as Interim CFO or Finance Director
• Conduct accounting, financial reporting, and financial analysis across the institution
• Advise on the development of financial policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
• Provide oversight and coordination of active finance projects and institutional priorities
• Assess finance department efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement
• Guide clients on aligning policy, process, and personnel with their Finance ERP solution

• 5+ years of experience across all aspects of higher education finance
• 5+ years in a CFO, Director of Finance, or Associate Director of Finance role within higher education
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred
• Hands-on experience with higher education ERP systems covering areas such as GL, budgeting, accounts payable, grants management, and financial reporting
• Demonstrated ability to lead organisational change and drive technology adoption
• Strong communication and consultative skills, with experience working across diverse stakeholder groups
